Windward Circle is about to turn into one long Caribbean block party. On Friday, August 21, the LA Jazz Festival's Caribbean Street Carnival lands in Venice for a free, full-day celebration of the rhythms that shaped jazz, with street food and drinks running the length of the block.

The carnival kicks off the closing weekend of the inaugural LA Jazz Festival, a 17-day citywide run organized around Los Angeles's deep jazz history. Four stages will anchor the day, each dedicated to a different sound: Cuba, Latin Jazz, New Orleans, and Afrobeats. DJs and dancing fill the space between sets.

The confirmed lineup pulls from across the diaspora. Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble, Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra, Tito Puente Jr., Adekunle Gold, Ozomatli, Herlin Riley, Charlie Sepúlveda and the Turnaround, Dafnis Prieto Sí o Sí Quartet, Lado B Brazilian Project, Irvin Mayfield, Dayramir Gonzalez, the CSULA Afro-Latin Ensemble, Shawn Thwaites Rebel Quartet, Sanchez, Nathi, Footlong Po Boy Jazz Band, and a Fela Kuti tribute from Sacred Noise Unknown are all on the bill.
