Régalade Expands Service at Its Beverly Grove Bistro

Régalade, the French bistro that opened on West Third Street in December, has widened its hours beyond the dinner-only service it launched with and now serves lunch as well. Dinner runs nightly, with midday service added on the back half of the week.

The restaurant comes from Jocelyn Bulow and Alessandro Iacobelli, the pair behind neighboring Italian spot Oste. Bulow, who was born and raised in France, had long wanted to build a French restaurant in Los Angeles. Régalade filled the former Slab space at 8136 W. Third Street with the kind of room he had in mind: a long zinc-topped bar running much of the dining room, leather banquettes, a small patio and large hanging portraits of French cultural figures.

Executive chef James LaLonde, whose background includes Delfina and Piperade, built a menu of bistro classics adjusted for California seasonality. Onion soup, escargot, steak frites with bordelaise, roast chicken and croque madame anchor the list, alongside savory buckwheat crepes and a raw bar stocked from a display behind the bar. LaLonde sources widely, including hamachi from Japan, mussels and oysters from Prince Edward Island and squid from Monterey Bay.

Sommelier Tiffany Bulow oversees the wine program and bar manager Tony Gutierrez runs the cocktail list, which leans on French aperitifs. Reservations are available on Resy, though the room is built to absorb walk-ins as well.

Bulow has described the goal as a neighborhood place where guests can sit down, order a glass of wine and some oysters, and stay as long as they like. The name refers to a French toast celebrating a great feast.
