Hotel Clark Finally Opened on Hill Street, and Votana Opens October 15
A hotel that has been six months from opening for thirteen years finally has guests in it.
The Hotel Clark soft opened on Tuesday, September 29, at 426 S. Hill Street, and the building's signature restaurant, Votana, is now in what the hotel calls its first look phase. The official grand opening party is set for October 15.
The restaurant is worth paying attention to on its own terms, but the address is the story. The Clark has been on the verge of opening for longer than some Los Angeles restaurants have existed.
Thirteen years of almost
The building went up in 1914 as a 555-room hotel, named for Eli P. Clark, the developer who helped build the streetcar network that shaped this city. It sat shuttered for decades. Curbed reported it was finally getting close to opening in March 2013, then that it was supposed to open that June. In 2019, Commercial Observer ran a piece whose headline said the quiet part out loud, describing years of fakeouts before another November target. The hotel began accepting reservations again in September 2026.
There is a nice symmetry in the Clark name for anyone who has been following our closure coverage. Eli Clark's streetcars are the same system that ran the Red Cars past Cole's, which closed this year after 118 years in the Pacific Electric Building. One piece of that history closed in March. Another reopened this week.
Votana
The restaurant is led by executive chef Gio Koletty, who brings more than a decade across luxury hotels, with leadership roles at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, Hotel Casa del Mar, the Hyatt Regency at LAX and the Sydney Opera House.
Per the hotel's announcement, Votana is built to meld California seasonality with the coastal cuisines of Greece, Italy, Spain and Southern France, with a curated wine list and a craft cocktail program. Koletty oversees the culinary vision across the property's dining outlets, not just the flagship.
Early diners have started posting, and branzino is already coming up more than once.
The rest of the building
Votana is one piece of a larger food and beverage program. The property also runs a lobby bar, a sports lounge and a pool deck bar on the second-floor deck, alongside more than 11,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
The leadership team was announced alongside the soft opening. Adrienne Craig is general manager and Alvin Manzano is director of food and beverage, with Samantha James on sales, Christian Jacob on finance and David Yurkin on IT, per Boutique Hotelier. The hotel is owned by the Chetrit Group and operated by OTH Resorts.
Why the location matters
Hill Street puts the Clark within walking distance of the Los Angeles Convention Center and Crypto.com Arena, which is a meaningful thing for a downtown restaurant. Convention weekends and arena nights are the difference between a hotel dining room that fills and one that does not, and with ComplexCon at the Convention Center this weekend, Votana's first look phase could not have been better timed.
Visiting
Hotel Clark and Votana are at 426 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90013, in the Historic Core between 4th and 5th.
Votana status: first look phase now, with the official grand opening party October 15.
Hotel: 348 rooms, now accepting reservations at hotelclark.com.
Other outlets: lobby bar, sports lounge and second-floor pool deck bar.
Parking: on-site parking is available, which in the Historic Core is worth the mention.
Transit: Pershing Square station on the Metro B and D Lines is a block away.
What we have our eye on: whether a coastal Mediterranean menu can hold its own on a block that has spent the past year losing its most recognizable restaurants. Votana arrives in a Historic Core that just lost Cole's. FJM will report back after the grand opening.
Menus and hours are still settling during the first look phase. Confirm with the hotel before a visit.
