Yumiyaki Is the Only Kansai-Style Sukiyaki House in Rowland Heights, a Neighborhood Already Topping LA County

Three of the 25 highest-scoring restaurants in Los Angeles County are in Rowland Heights. One unincorporated community of about 50,000 people is holding the county's number one spot and two more seats in the top dozen.
Yumiyaki Sukiyaki House is at 18184 Colima Road, a few minutes from all three, and it is making a narrower bet than any of them: Kansai-style sukiyaki, which the restaurant says nothing else in the area is built around.
Sukiyaki First, Not Hot Pot With Extras
The distinction matters. Shabu-shabu swishes thin meat through a clear broth. Kansai-style sukiyaki is sweeter and more savory, closer to a braise, with beef cooked down in soy, sugar and mirin rather than rinsed through stock. It is the richer and less familiar of the two in Los Angeles.
Yumiyaki builds the whole meal around it. Japanese A5 wagyu goes into the pot, and nigiri and sashimi run alongside rather than as an afterthought. The company frames it as a table-centered meal for groups rather than a steak served to one person.
The self-serve section is doing more work than that phrase usually implies: more than 15 vegetable and side options, a wagyu beef bowl, soft drinks, a milk tea bar and ice cream.
The Two Sets
Member pricing second:
Gold, $78 or $68. The entry set.
Diamond, $88 or $78. The upper set.
The $28 annual membership that unlocks the lower column also works at Mikiya Wagyu Shabu House locations, which is worth knowing if you eat at either with any regularity.
A Neighborhood on a Run
The opening statistic deserves unpacking. Chubby Cattle BBQ in Rowland Heights has held the top spot in our county-wide restaurant score coverage two weeks running at 99 out of 100, the best result among roughly 3,800 qualifying restaurants in Los Angeles County. AiPaPa Hot Burger and Pho Lovers 4, both also in Rowland Heights, sit at 98.
Three top-25 seats from a single unincorporated community is not a coincidence. The Colima Road corridor has been one of the most competitive stretches of Asian dining in Southern California for years, and competition at that density tends to raise the floor for everyone on the street.
Yumiyaki has drawn a 4.6 average across more than 180 Google ratings since opening, and diners consistently describe ordering A5 ribeye, wagyu nigiri and sashimi in the same sitting.
Hot Pot Keeps Finding New Rooms
The category has been expanding across the county all year. Osigye is serving deboned whole-chicken hot pot on the third floor of Madang Mall in Koreatown, and the eastern San Gabriel Valley keeps producing rooms worth the drive, as the 626 Night Market crowds demonstrate every summer.
What We Have Our Eye On
We have not eaten at Yumiyaki yet. The Diamond set is the one we want, because unlimited nigiri and sashimi alongside A5 is where an all-you-can-eat kitchen either holds its standard or quietly lowers it. The sukiyaki broth itself is the other thing to judge: a Kansai-style base is sweet by design, and whether that reads as rich or cloying over a long meal is the whole question.
