A Management Consultant Quit to Make Pan Pizza. Mievè Opens on La Brea in October.
Two years of weekly order drops, a liquor license filing, and a former burger shop on La Brea.
Mievè is opening its first permanent restaurant at 131 S. La Brea Avenue in October, taking the space that was Burgers 99. The name is pronounced mee-vay, and the pizza is the reason anyone knows it.
Amirali Ghasemipour founded it with Sepiden Saeedinejad. He is a former management consultant who left a corporate job to make pan pizza, taught himself the craft, and spent roughly two years building a following through weekly order drops, pop-ups and residencies around Los Angeles before taking on a lease.
What they will serve
The format widens considerably from the drop model. Mievè will run both thin-crust round pizzas and thicker square pan pies, with farmers market toppings that rotate weekly, alongside an expanded menu of small plates. The drinks list covers natural wine and microbrews, which is what the liquor license filing was for.
Weekly rotating toppings is the detail worth watching. It is easy to promise and hard to run, and it means the menu on your second visit will not match your first.
The pop-up path
Pop-up to brick-and-mortar has become a well-worn route in Los Angeles, and it works especially well for pizza. A tight menu keeps costs down while a built-in audience delivers demand on day one. Mievè spent two years proving the product before signing for an address, which is close to the opposite of how most restaurants open.
The Infatuation has been tracking the project since June), when it first appeared on the summer openings list. It slipped to fall, which is ordinary for a first build-out.
The street it is joining
La Brea Avenue has become one of the more competitive restaurant corridors in the city, and it has history behind it. Nancy Silverton and Mark Peel opened Campanile on La Brea in 1989 with La Brea Bakery attached, a pairing the Los Angeles Times later credited with helping shape the city's culinary landscape. Republique occupies that building now.
A self-taught pizza maker opening a few blocks from where Silverton built her bakery is a decent piece of symmetry, whether or not anyone involved intended it.
Visiting
Mievè is at 131 S. La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036, in the Fairfax district between 1st and 2nd, in the former Burgers 99 space.
Opening: October 2026 per the restaurant's Instagram. No exact date has been confirmed.
Format: thin-crust rounds and square pan pies, small plates, natural wine and microbrews.
Parking: metered street parking on La Brea and the residential blocks east, which fill fast in the evening on that stretch.
Updates: posted on Instagram at @eat.mieve.
What we have our eye on: the square pan pie, and whether the weekly topping rotation survives contact with a daily service. The order-drop model let them cook to demand. A dining room does not. FJM will report back after opening.
