Kozo Is Bringing Its Afro-Asian Dining Room to 8500 Sunset, Its First Outside Africa

Kozo runs restaurants in Ghana and Rwanda. Its Los Angeles flagship, on the Sunset Strip, will be the brand's first location outside the continent.
What Afro-Asian means here
The company describes the cooking as vibrant African flavors meeting Pan-Asian precision. In practice, published previews of the Los Angeles menu list dishes like these:
King crab miso rolls
Wagyu and truffle gyoza with suya spice
Charcoal grilled peri peri chicken marinated with kimchi
The bar works the same seam, pulling baobab and marula alongside yuzu, shiso and matcha.
The room
The dining room is being built around timber pillars shipped from Ghana, set against a stone cave treatment. For a brand whose argument is that the two cuisines belong in one room, importing the structural material from one of its home markets is a fairly literal way to make the point. Forbes profiled how the brand built itself across two continents before this expansion.
What we have our eye on
Fusion is an easy word and a hard kitchen. What we want to see is whether the suya spice and the peri peri are doing real work in those dishes or sitting on top of them. A restaurant with established rooms in Accra and Kigali arrives with a track record, which is more than most new Sunset Strip openings can say.
The Strip is turning over
This block has been changing fast. The h.wood Group is converting its own nightclub into an izakaya at Little Luck, and the same company opened a neighborhood grill in the Palisades, trading velvet ropes for a dining room. Nearby in Hollywood, Gable at the Hollywood Roosevelt is running a live fire hearth.
Visiting
Kozo Los Angeles is at 8500 Sunset Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069. The company's own site announced the restaurant for 2026 and is collecting updates at info@kozousa.com. Published previews place the opening in October.
