Marcus Jernmark Is Opening Maree Above Lielle on Pico Boulevard

Marcus Jernmark has a second restaurant planned for the Pico Boulevard building he took over last year. It is called Maree, and it will sit directly above Lielle in the bright upstairs space that housed Manzke until March 2024.

The two rooms are meant to work as opposites. Lielle is subterranean, windowless and built around a $150 four-course menu. Maree is the daylight counterpart, planned as a more casual and more affordable day-to-night cafe and coffee shop with a wine bar and weekend brunch service. Jernmark has framed the pairing as a practical solution to the block's limited foot traffic, with two stacked rooms keeping the building busy across the full week.

The cooking has been described as Parisian Californian rather than Nordic. Jernmark has been openly ambitious about where he wants it to land, telling one interviewer he hopes to grow Maree over the next decade into something like a Los Angeles answer to San Francisco's Zuni Cafe, while acknowledging the space is considerably larger than Lielle.

Reporting through the spring pointed toward a late summer debut, though no firm opening date has been announced and the timeline has moved before. Lielle earned a Michelin star in June, which is likely to bring attention to whatever opens upstairs.

Maree is planned for 9575 W. Pico Boulevard in Beverlywood, the upstairs room in the same building as Lielle. No opening date, service hours or reservation details have been announced. The team posts updates at lielle.la, and FJM will update this post once a date is confirmed.
