Nisei Week Plaza Festival Returns to Little Tokyo Saturday, August 22, 2026

One of the longest-running cultural festivals in the country returns to the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, and the food is a language of its own.
The Plaza Festival, one of the anchor events of the 84th Annual Nisei Week Japanese Festival, lands at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., per the Nisei Week Foundation. The plaza fills with Japanese food vendors, a beer garden, live entertainment, and free cultural exhibits, per Rafu Shimpo's 2026 festival coverage. The Plaza Festival closes out the second weekend of the broader nine-day Nisei Week celebration that runs across Little Tokyo from August 15 through August 23.

Per the Nisei Week Foundation, the Plaza Festival is a free, family-friendly event held on the outdoor plaza and inside the JACCC building at 244 South San Pedro Street. Programming across the day features:

Per Rafu Shimpo, the specific cultural exhibits featuring bonsai, ikebana, tea ceremony, and calligraphy are staged on the first festival weekend (August 15-16) at JACCC, so plan accordingly if those demonstrations are on your list. The Grand Parade winds through Little Tokyo on Sunday, August 16 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, August 23 continues broader JACCC programming after the Plaza Festival's Saturday session.
