Pizzeria Sei Is Ranked No. 2 in the Country, and Its Palms Dining Room Is Open

One Los Angeles pizzeria is ranked second in the country, and it spent this summer moving into a room big enough to sit down in.
Second in the Country, Two Years Running
Pizzeria Sei was named the No. 2 pizzeria in the United States by 50 Top Pizza USA for the second consecutive year. Worth noting that coverage of the ranking has been inconsistent about who Sei shares the position with, so we are reporting the placement rather than the tie. The recognition is not new territory. Sei has drawn national attention since not long after it opened, including from New York Times critic Tejal Rao, who described a crust that eats almost buttery while hot, salty and freckled with char at the surface and soft at the rim.
The Palms Dining Room Opened June 24
The new location at 10700 Tabor Street, at the corner of Overland Avenue, opened on June 24, 2026. It is the restaurant's first expansion since Chef William Joo and his wife and partner Jennifer So opened the original in Pico-Robertson in 2022. The Palms space gives them a full sit-down dining room, a larger kitchen, and a more ambitious beverage program with a broader wine list.

The Original Did Not Close
This is the part most coverage buries. The Pico-Robertson space did not shut down when Palms opened. It was rebranded as Sei Pizza Bar and is still operating at 8781 W. Pico Boulevard, with takeout and online ordering that the new dining room does not offer. If you have been going to the Pico location for years, it is still there.
What We Have Our Eyes On
Joo describes his approach as Tokyo-style Neapolitan. Per the restaurant, the pizzas keep a Neapolitan foundation, baked fast at high heat, then shaped with a crimping technique that produces soft airy sections, crisp edges and charred bubbles in the same crust. Born in South Korea and raised in Los Angeles, Joo did not train in Tokyo. He built the style through years of watching and experimenting. The bigger kitchen has made room for two things the original space could not support: fried montanara pizzas and scrocchiarella, the thin and crackly Roman style. Alongside the Margherita, the menu runs to the Four Culture Diavola, the Mala Garden, a Riviera, and a Patate pie topped with caviar. We have not eaten at the Palms location yet, so treat this as what we are curious about rather than a verdict.
