Crustacean Beverly Hills Says Its Last Day on Bedford Is July 29, Not July 31

Crustacean Beverly Hills is leaving the address it has held for three decades. The closing date has been reported three different ways, and the restaurant's own website settles it.

Most coverage of the closure has put the final meal at July 31, 2026. At least one report said July 27. On July 23, Beverly Press reported that spokesman Carl Larsen said the exact date had not been determined and that the restaurant would close by Sept. 30 at the latest.

Crustacean's own homepage is unambiguous. It states that the restaurant will be open for its last lunch and dinner on Bedford on Wednesday, July 29th, and the hours section repeats it. If you were planning a farewell meal around a July 31 deadline, you have less time than you think.

Thirty Years on Bedford Drive

Crustacean opened on Bedford Drive in 1995 and spent the next thirty years as one of the most recognizable dining rooms in Beverly Hills. The story starts earlier and smaller. Per the restaurant's own account, it began with a 24-seat Italian deli in San Francisco in 1971, bought by a family that had fled Saigon in 1975 with their recipes and not much else. Crustacean San Francisco followed in Nob Hill in 1991, and Beverly Hills four years after that.

Chef Helene An, known as the Mother of Fusion Cuisine, built the menu by blending Vietnamese flavors with French technique and Chinese precision. She created AN's Famous Garlic Noodles, and her work has been recognized by the Smithsonian Institution and the California Hall of Fame. Her daughter Elizabeth An runs the House of AN as CEO.

Why the Restaurant Is Leaving

Founder Elizabeth An told Fox 11 that the building housing the restaurant was sold earlier this year and that the new owner has different plans for the property. The AN family has framed this as a move rather than an ending. In the farewell message posted to their site, the family thanked guests for thirty years on Bedford and asked them to stay connected while the next chapter takes shape. The message is signed simply, the AN Family.

A Pattern Worth Naming

Crustacean is not an isolated case. Los Angeles keeps losing long running restaurants to real estate rather than to empty dining rooms. Earlier this month a Hollywood taco stand closed after 34 years following the sale of its property. In Van Nuys, Heart's Coffee Shop will serve its last meal on August 9 after nearly fifty years. The through line is the same: the building changes hands, and the restaurant has nowhere to go. Crustacean Beverly Hills is at 468 North Bedford Drive on the Rodeo Triangle, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. Through Wednesday, July 29, lunch runs Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m., dinner runs Tuesday through Sunday starting at 5 p.m. with a last seating at 9:30 p.m., and AN Sum Sunday Brunch runs 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. AN the GO takeout is available daily until 5 p.m. The restaurant is directing reservations to Resy and notes that phone response times are slower than usual given the volume.
