Gott's Roadside Is Bringing Its Second LA Location to Santa Monica

Gott's Roadside opened its first Southern California location at the Original Farmers Market on March 6, ending a long stretch in which Angelenos could only reach the Napa Valley burger institution by driving north. A second location is planned for Santa Monica.

The coastal site is set for 401 Wilshire Boulevard, blocks from the beach and steps from the Third Street Promenade, in a space formerly occupied by Osteria. At roughly 6,600 square feet plus another 2,200 square feet of patio, it is considerably larger than the Farmers Market location. Company president Clay Walker has said the coastal location is positioned to serve Malibu, Pacific Palisades and Brentwood to the north and Venice Beach and Marina del Rey to the south.

Timing has shifted in public statements between summer and fall of this year, and no firm opening date has been announced.

The background

Gott's traces to 1949, when the Taylor family opened Taylor's Refresher, a drive-in hamburger stand in St. Helena. Brothers Joel and Duncan Gott leased the property in 1999 and built it into a Bay Area institution with locations including the Ferry Building and Oxbow Public Market. The two Los Angeles sites are the company's first expansion outside the Bay Area.

The Farmers Market location sits at 6333 W. Third Street next to the West Patio, near Du-par's, and runs seven days a week. The menu covers the core lineup: a double cheeseburger, green chile and kimchi burgers, an ahi burger, an Impossible option, tacos, fries and hand-spun shakes, plus a dedicated soft-serve window pouring Strauss organic vanilla, chocolate and swirl. The wine list leans on Napa producers, which is part of how the company carried its wine country identity south.
