Daniel Patterson Is Back Behind a Tasting Menu, and It Is on Melrose

Daniel Patterson spent years as one of the most recognized chefs in Northern California. Jacaranda puts him back behind a tasting menu counter in Los Angeles, on a stretch of Melrose Avenue that has quietly turned into one of the better dining blocks in the city.
Two menus, two levels of commitment
The restaurant runs two formats, both listed on its own site. A six course menu is $185 per person. A twelve course menu is $295 per person.
The split is worth noting. Twelve courses is an evening with a clear beginning and end. Six courses at $185 is a reachable version of the same kitchen, and a restaurant that offers both is usually confident the shorter menu still represents what it does.
The chef
Patterson built his reputation at Coi in San Francisco, a tasting menu restaurant that held two Michelin stars before it closed. He opened Jacaranda with partner Sarah Lewitinn. The restaurant notes on its own site that it was named to the New York Times list of the best restaurants in America.
What we have our eye on
We have not eaten at Jacaranda yet. Three things we are watching for when we do:
How the six course menu is paced, and whether it reads as a complete meal rather than a sampler.
The vegetable cooking Patterson is known for, translated to a Los Angeles growing season rather than a Northern California one.
The Melrose block itself, which now supports several ambitious rooms within a short walk.
Melrose keeps building
Jacaranda lands on a corridor that has been accumulating serious kitchens. Little Fish in Melrose Hill had the kind of year most restaurants plan for, and the broader picture of how the city fared in the 2026 Michelin Guide California and on North America's 50 Best shows a city with more fine dining depth than it had five years ago.
