Four Los Angeles restaurants landed on North America's 50 Best Restaurants for 2026, announced at a ceremony in New Orleans. California took nine spots overall. The list is voted by roughly 300 people, each simply asked to name their eight best restaurant experiences in the region, which makes it a different instrument than Michelin: less about consistency and technique, more about which meals people could not stop talking about.

Smyth in Chicago took the top spot, followed by Eight in Calgary and Restaurant Pearl Morissette in Ontario. This year's list spanned 20 cities, with 36 restaurants from the United States and 14 from Canada.

Holbox, South Central

The highest-ranked Los Angeles restaurant at No. 26, and the one that says the most about this city. Gilberto Cetina's seafood counter operates inside Mercado La Paloma, a community marketplace in South Central, and has become one of the great LA success stories, moving from a stall to a Michelin star to an international ranking without leaving the building. The team has said it is proud to represent the South Central community on an international stage.

Kato, Arts District

Jon Yao's Taiwanese fine dining restaurant, which won the Resy One to Watch award from the World's 50 Best organization before graduating onto the list itself. It holds a Michelin star and has been named the number one restaurant in Los Angeles on the LA Times 101 Best Restaurants list. Austin Hennelly runs a bar program that is among the best attached to any tasting menu in the city.

Providence, Melrose

Michael Cimarusti's seafood restaurant, which reached three Michelin stars and has been the steady point of reference for fine dining in Los Angeles for two decades. Cimarusti closed his West Hollywood restaurant Connie and Ted's in July after 13 years, which makes Providence's standing all the more notable.

Somni, West Hollywood

The new addition for 2026, and the one with the most dramatic recent history. Aitor Zabala's 14-seat Californian-Spanish counter originally ran at the SLS Beverly Hills as a collaboration with Jose Andres, earning two Michelin stars before closing in 2020. Zabala reopened it in West Hollywood in November 2024, and in June 2025 it became one of the first Greater Los Angeles restaurants to hold three Michelin stars. Booking runs two to three months out.

The other awards

  • Sustainable Restaurant Award: Atelier Crenn, San Francisco.

  • One to Watch: Wildweed, Cincinnati.

  • Art of Hospitality: Restaurant Pearl Morissette, Ontario.

  • Best Female Chef: Mashama Bailey of The Grey in Savannah.

  • Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice: Corey Lee of Benu in San Francisco.

Booking any of them

All four are hard tables, but not equally. Holbox is the most accessible, both in price and in getting a seat, because it still operates as a counter inside a marketplace. Somni is the hardest, with a 14-seat room and a two to three month lead time. Kato and Providence sit between, and both release reservations on a rolling window, so the practical advice is to set a reminder rather than check casually.
