Shadow Grove's Where the Creatures Sleep Is Open on Lankershim in NoHo

New Restaurant Alert: The San Fernando brewery known for small-batch experiments has planted a full-service flag in the NoHo Arts District.

Shadow Grove Brewing's first full-service restaurant, Where the Creatures Sleep at Shadow Grove Brewing, is open at 5249 Lankershim Boulevard in North Hollywood. The kitchen and taproom took over the former District Pub space and began service in May 2026, following two soft-opening nights on April 24 and 25 that the brewery detailed on its own events page.

A Downtown San Fernando Brewery Comes to NoHo

Shadow Grove Brewing was founded in 2019 by Ron Dembowski and Tom Clark, two longtime friends who opened their first 2,600-square-foot brewery and taproom on Second Street in downtown San Fernando in 2021. The NoHo location is Shadow Grove's first expansion outside the city where it was founded. Beer poured at Where the Creatures Sleep is made at the San Fernando production facility, and the taproom pairs the house lineup with a rotation of guest beers, ciders, wines, and non-alcoholic options.

The brewery frames its identity as immersive world-building. "Discover our characters through the beers, while the environment and action are hinted upon in our tasting room," reads a passage on shadowgrovebrewing.com. "Let your imagination run wild and fill in the blanks." At Where the Creatures Sleep, that translates to animal sketches worked into the brick walls and an atmosphere that leans hard on the brewery's own visual language. It joins a busy summer of new restaurants in Los Angeles.

A Neighborhood Brewpub in the Arts District

The NoHo Arts District has become one of the Valley's most bar-and-restaurant-dense corridors, and Where the Creatures Sleep slots into a Lankershim stretch that pulls crossover foot traffic from the theaters, comedy rooms, and music venues around it. Kitchen hours run Sunday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight.

The kitchen leans on a bar-friendly menu with a vegan-friendly bent. What we plan to order:

• Fried oyster mushrooms — the standout appetizer and the tell for the kitchen's veg-forward posture.

• "That Which Hides in the Haze" — the flagship Hazy IPA that anchors the taproom board.

• The West Coast rotation — Shadow Grove's small-batch experiments turn over week to week, so the tap board rewards repeat visits.

• Guest pours — the beer, cider, wine, and non-alcoholic guest rotation gives the taproom a full bar's flexibility.
