It's Potato Built the Inside of a 747 in North Hollywood and Fills It With Baked Potatoes

Overhead bins, a cockpit, fake windows, and a loaded potato with your name on it.

It's Potato sits on Sherman Way in North Hollywood, and the concept is exactly what the name promises with one large twist. The dining room is built to look like the inside of a Boeing 747, with overhead bins, a cockpit and window ports along the wall. The owner designed and built the decorations himself, and diners routinely mention how visibly proud he is of them. One reviewer, a pilot, said the theme made his day.

How it works

The format is build your own. You start with a baked potato and choose a protein and toppings. The lineup runs chicken in a white sauce, ground wagyu beef in a chile-style sauce, carne asada, and a shrimp preparation the kitchen makes on its own recipe.

What we have our eye on: the shrimp, which the kitchen calls its own recipe rather than a standard preparation. Two practical notes worth knowing before you order: the crispy onion topping carries an extra dollar that lands at the register rather than the menu board, and the soda fountain has free refills. FJM will report back after a visit.

Why it works in the Valley

A build-your-own baked potato restaurant is a rare format in Los Angeles, and a themed one is rarer still. It reads as a family restaurant more than a destination, which is precisely the gap on that stretch of Sherman Way.

The Infatuation included it in its running list of new Los Angeles openings. FJM verified the address, hours and phone independently.

Visiting

It's Potato is at 13116 Sherman Way, North Hollywood, CA 91605, between Coldwater Canyon and Woodman, in the eastern stretch of the Valley. Reach it at (424) 524-7206.

  • Hours: 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, which makes it one of the few late options on that block.

  • Price: moderate, with the extra toppings adding up faster than the base price suggests.

  • Parking: the on-site lot is small and part of it is coned off for delivery pickup, so budget for street parking on Sherman Way.

  • Good for: families and kids, which the aviation build leans into directly.
